Greens Report – December 2015

By 9th December 2015No Comments

Greens

Despite massive amounts of rainfall over the last few weeks the greens are currently in fairly good condition for this time of year . Rainfall has been draining through the soil profile more efficiently than in the past which has resulted in much firmer greens that have allowed many more days play . This is due to the programme we have in place of regular aeration , frequent light top dressings as well as many other treatments applied throughout the year. There are some greens that require a little more protection than others during times of heavy rainfall however with the continuation of the programme this will become less of a problem over the coming years .

Winter rules

ALL GOLFERS are required to play from a mat on all tees and fairways . This is to help to protect the course through the winter months when recovery from any damage caused is minimal .This is allowing us to provide the members with a longer winter course while at the same time helping to protect the teeing ground through the winter months.

This rule will be strictly enforced and any member/visitor found not to be using a mat will be asked to leave the course immediately .

Any member/visitor who does not have a mat prior to play can purchase one from the professionals shop .

I would like to thank the members for their co-operation in using the mats .

To further help preserve the tees during the winter months where possible winter tees have been identified and cut and will be in operation at the discretion of the greenkeeping staff . When playing from these winter tees the use of mats are optional from them .

Could I ask ALL golfers to follow the instructions from the areas that have either have ropes/hoops or white lines on them . These are put in place to help to preserve the course as much as is possible over the winter months Thank you .

Worm Casts

All the tees , approaches and winter greens and have been sprayed with a worm cast suppressant . This keeps these areas clean and mud free throughout the winter and improves the putting surface of the winter greens .

Winter greens

These areas are to be treated as ground under repair and are to be used for putting only.

Pitch marks

Could I ask that all golfers please repair their pitch marks . We are fixing dozens every morning by which time lasting damage to the putting surface has already occurred . Thank you
