CALUM Smith is the new head professional at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, taking over from John Henderson who has moved into a managerial role at the club.
Smith, who lives in Prestonpans, served for about 12 years as assistant to Henderson who was the head professional at the club for 22 years.
Formerly an amateur at Dunbar, 30-year-old Smith has competed on the Tartan Tour, but has spent the majority time in his spell at the club helping to run the pro shop and coaching.
Smith has been a fully qualified professional for seven years and Henderson has no doubts that he will succeed in his new role.
Speaking to Courier Sport Henderson said: “I taught him everything he knows. He was a first class assistant and is very, very enthusiastic and committed to the club. The club had no doubt in their mind that Calum was going to take over.”
County golf star Lloyd Saltman helped celebrate Smith’s new role by leading a team of four against Smith’s team of four in a four-hold challenge at the golf course at the weekend.
