Royal Musselburgh were honoured to have been awarded the 5th hole to Marshall during the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield.
There were 59 volunteers overall and to successfully Marshal this hole and it took two shift patterns of 21 marshals per shift to achieve the task.
The marshals were all required to attend training and briefing courses prior to the event as well as volunteering various days throughout the Championship week which started on Sunday 14th July and ran through to Sunday 21st July.
Willie Gilfillan controlled the morning shift and can be seen with his team in the middle of the photograph wearing a blue polo shirt and Arthur Reid controlled the afternoon shift and can be seen with his team in the middle of the front row wearing shorts.
Both Willie and Arthur would like to thank all the marshals who volunteered their time throughout the process and who demonstrated their professionalism over the course of the Championship week.
Gary Hawker & Peter Arthur, Chief and Depute Marshals for the R & A commented that the marshals were the unsung heroes over the week and that they had been too many open championships over the years and this was without doubt the best marshaled open championship that they had ever seen.
